Preface

بسم اللہ الرحمٰن الرحیم

In the name of Allah, the Most Merciful, the Most Compassionate

Many devotional supplications (wazāʾif) are recited, but can there be any supplication better than the one recited by the Messenger of Allah ﷺ himself? The words of praise, glorification, and supplications of the Messenger of Allah ﷺ that are preserved in the books of Hadith—are they not sufficient that one should turn to other words and litanies instead? Moreover, when the words and supplications of the Messenger of Allah ﷺ are available, engaging in other formulas of remembrance and supplication is contrary to the requirements of faith.

Love for the Messenger of Allah ﷺ is a condition of faith. And the true demand of this love is that the remembrance of Allah Almighty be performed according to his method and in his words, and that abundant blessings (ṣalāh and salām) be sent upon him. Sending blessings upon the Prophet carries immense virtue. Within ṣalāh upon the Prophet lie great blessings and mercy for us.

It is not possible to include the entire treasury of the praises and supplications of the Messenger of Allah ﷺ in this booklet. Therefore, only those praises and supplications have been included here whose recitation is prescribed for specific occasions. Among them are many whose neglect may lead to loss in the Hereafter. The code of life with which the Messenger of Allah ﷺ was sent—these praises and supplications form an essential part of that very system. Adhering to the divinely prescribed way of life and following the Messenger of Allah ﷺ completely is the only guarantee of salvation—nothing else.

The acceptance of supplications depends upon the presence of the heart. For this reason, translations of the supplications have also been provided in this booklet, so that readers may memorize the meanings and keep in mind, while reciting, what they are saying and what they are asking from Allah Almighty.
